DNA links to your surname

New research out of the United Kingdom is finding that a mans DNA can be linked to his surname using the Y chromosome. The current research has a relatively small success rate with common names and has a much greater success rate with rare ones. (Like in title)

  1. It would be really nice that you can just tell the surname by looking at your DNA using Y chromosome. I am actually not sure if they tell you the right surname because there are so many people who change their surname due to some reason, but I can surely tell that it would be nice for people who actually don't know their real surname. Right now there are really less chances of find the surnames but the future is bright and research will be moving faster and faster.

  2. This seems interesting but is it really needed. We can already tell who someone is by DNA so why would we need to find out just the surname. Also there would be a block in this system if someone changes their name. People not only change their first name but last as well, whether it be for protection purposes or just because they wanted a new one. Before this idea is finally perfected, there will need to be a lot of changes to be made inorder to make it successful.
